Where can I submit articles as a freelancer and earn money?

I'm looking for content writing sites that pay in time and are open to writing on a variety of subjects.

1. You don't just decide to "submit articles ... and earn money." Rather, you first develop a strong interest in and a real expertise about some subject, and then (and only then) you start writing about it. The area of interest doesn't matter -- anything from archery to zoo-keeping will do -- because there are magazines for every conceivable activity these days. I have a friend who's been running marathons for thirty years and last year decided to write an article (his first ever) about running the Warsaw marathon. It was published in a slick magazine devoted to running. Anything that you know a lot about, whether it's skateboarding or video games, can provide fodder for an article. First read some of the periodicals in that field to see what they're printing, then write your own. (I don't need to mention that they have to be grammatically correct and contain no spelling errors, right? Good luck!)
