Stupid Software!?

I need to write a newspaper article for science and it needs to be separated into columns, much like a newspaper. The only program I have besides wordpad is Angel Writer. Can I use this program to do so? Thanks to anyone who gives an answer. It is appreciated! Do you need winzip to access openoffice.org?
